Brunch was probably the best idea that morning. We got a bucket of bubbles and OJ for mimosas at Anthem Kitchen and Bar. Food and charged our phones. Walked around Faneuil Hall and got our souvenir gifts for friends and family and our very own Boston crew necks, which you can see pictured all below. Faneuil Hall was like a huge public market. Each big hall had more markets inside. Once at our very hairy Airbnb, we freshened up and then took off again, this time for Fenway Park on the green line.
First off, our Airbnb was great, to me it was the BEST location for airport and downtown. One stop up to the airport and one stop down (Aquarium) to downtown. We were two-three blocks from our blue station (Maverick). The price was great, cheap and reasonable. HOWEVER, the amount of hair in the bathroom, our bed, and etc. was pretty disgusting. Our room was freezing! It was like an apartment, with a dozen or more rooms with locks. Like a better version of hostel because obviously the privacy of doors and locks but still the same amount of people staying in a small area. Three floors and three bathrooms. Fenway was busy with an exciting game of hurling. We just wanted to walk in and see the field but the only was was a $25 ticket in and we were not feeling it. The lady at the ticket booth gave us a tip to go to Bleacher's Bar. We got a great seat with a garage like huge window with the field right in front of us. Sam Adam's Winter Ale too. It was a great hour of talking and watching and of course taking photos. A lady from Chicago took our photos in front of the field too.
Um also, I think I understand but still a little shocked with the amount of European shops and pubs that were there. Primark, my FAVOURITE clothing store from England, was there! I use to shop there every week back when I studied abroad in 2015. I didn't go in because I know myself, I would have bought a huge back of clothes to take back. Elephant and Castle pub was there, an English pub too. Flying Tiger, a cute trinket, paper shop that I saw all around Northern Europe. etc. etc.
Later we went back after trying to get to Harvard and deciding after peeing at a TJ Max that it was getting dark and we were tired and her phone was dead, to just head back. We stopped to buy our lobster hats and take some more photos and grab a quick vodka redbull at the Salty Dog Bar in Faneuil Hall.
Going out that night was fun but also lame. Sundays are not fundays in Boston. We tried a few bars but none of them stuck. WE started out at Cunard Tavern across from our Airbnb. WAY too expensive, don't ever go there. Then we went to Side Bar for some great food and cheap drinks. I do recommend that place. Then we headed for The Lookout rooftop bar. I saw it on someone's snap the day prior, with heated and lit up igloo tents and an AMAZING view of the city but when we went up to the top floor, we saw it and it was closed. So sad. It looked like the perfect spot. Next time Boston. Wild Rover was our last stop, with karaoke happening. Bad karaoke. Bad as in, they were picking horrible songs to sing. Got back early and slept, we needed it anyway. Next time, Black Rose.
Next morning we found the BEST brunch spot. Called the North Street Grille. It was packed on a Monday morning, packed. I highly recommend!! It was a cute and small little restaurant and the menu was huge and loaded with amazing dishes. We probably read it for fifteen minutes. I do not recommend their blooddy mary though. We both got omelettes.
It was a rainy day this day, so we planned indoor activities. We made our way to the Samuel Adam's Brewery. Before our tour, we sat in the tap room and got a flight of beers. Photo shoot. Free tour and free beer, although you should tip at least $2. They were under construction when we came so we only got the beer tasting portion of the tour. I did not like our tour guide, he was kind of rude to us. A free little glass and then took our ticket to Doyle's Bar in exchange for a larger Sam Adams glass. And a slice of Boston Creme Pie, very delicious.
Art Museum time. We rushed there to have only one more hour left before it closed. Luckily it was a free ticket at that time because there was only an hour left. We ran through. My favourite piece was Tara Donovan's plastic cup installation. Hopper. Picasso. Pollock. Kahlo. Degas. Rivera. Chihuly. Etc.
Lastly, we walked to Punter's Pub across the street from the museum for one last beer and to charge our phones before we got in an Uber to our Airbnb for our bags and then to our gate at the airport. Took off at 8pm and got into Chicago at 9:30pm. Drove back to Milwaukee and got back right before midnight.
Overall, Boston was great. I would most definetly go back, next time when it is warmer.
