Damn I-70. Over 530 miles. 11 hours.
So, it was a lot of redbull. Stopped to see the "Welcome to Colorful Colorado" sign! Um, meeting the hosts in Westfalia or Westy (the van I stayed in) was awesome. Anjanette is a 24 year old girl, shy. Later I met her boyfriend Rez, cool ass hippie who used to live in Portland, San Diego, in LA (on Venice beach) with dreads, and some other places. He was very chill and told me he has to shut down his place (on airbnb.com) for some reason and that meant I was his last guest. He also knew about my friends bailing on me so he wanted to hang out and go out. It was also his 45th birthday on July 28th and also my half birthday so we went out. Also his crazy neighbor Becky, the good fun crazy came out. She is seeing a bunch of guys and one of them works for Hallmark so she has a bucket full of cards. She made me one for my half birthday ahhaha. Wait, I got there on the 27th. Took a shower and a bunch of cough syrup (sick). Then Rez came out and I gave him some Spotted Cow (New Glarus Beer that is only distributed in Wisconsin). We talked about a lot of stuff. Things he is going through and the stuff I am going through. Got real. He showed me his backyard full of chickens and ducks. His garage roof that can see the skyline. Rez noticed my shirt that had the band Motley Crue on it and I explained how it's my moms shirt, that she got me into the band. I also explained how I turned this trip into a way to honor my mom, because she traveled to Arizona to live and work at the Grand Canyon around the age 19. She then found out she was pregnant with me so she had to move back. Well he loved that and told me Vince Neil (lead singer of the band) is going to be at Elitch Gardens (amusement park that runs annually in Denver). So Rez and I decided we HAD to go. July 29th, Saturday we went. We rocked out. Oh wait, Friday the 28th after celebrating his birthday I went out to downtown to check out some bars, Jackson's in particular. Ten dollars all you can drink until 12:30am for girls. Twenty dollars for guys. Thought I was going to go back to Westy around midnight, until a guy tried to hit on me. Layton. He was funny and sweet but I told him I got a guy back home and then he instantly became a bro. We talked and had fun and I was his wingman. Later, we went to his favourite bar, Star Bar. Had crappy beer and talked about music. After we listened to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, then we went home after yelling at people leaving the bars after 2am in Canadian. Just so you know, I am typing something everytime I remember something. Oh, dispensaries. Its where you buy recreational or medical marijuana. I bought some fruit punch mints, I didn't want to smoke because my throat was sore from my cough. The mints were nasty. I gave one to my grandma, I wonder when she'll take it. Okay also, there are a million different license plates for Colorado. There are the green mountains (popular), or the red/yellow/orange/pink/blue mountains, and other various things. Saw the Museum of Contemporary Art, showing work by Ryan McGinley, Jenny Morgan, and Derrick Velasquez. One day, the 29th. I drove to and around and through the Rocky Mountains. Take the one big drive through and stop whenever you see a beautiful spot with a pull over on the road. Avanti is a nice bar/food spot on the same block that I stayed on. 3252 N. Pecos St. Avanti has different foods, mexican or italian or american or sushi or wood fired pizza. I didnt get food until I came back the next week but I did get the Left Hand Milk Stout beer. I also had a Prost beer that is brewed a block down. Went on the ferris wheel at Elitch Gardens after the concert.
